On Tuesday, Philadelphia Magazine came out with a story by Liz Spikol reporting that Phillies closer Jonathan Papelbon has put his swanky condo #1501 at the 1706 Rittenhouse Square ultraluxury building up for sale.
Papelbon is among the many Phillies high-priced veterans on the trade market this off-season. This move is basic practical preparation for the pitcher, who clearly expects a deal to get done at some point and is looking to be ready to move on short notice.
Spikol describes the Papelbon condo as “full-floor…with terraces that have fantastic views. Private elevators…an automated parking system” with 4 bedrooms and 3+ baths. The 4,200 square feet unit is priced at $6.9 million.

Meanwhile, teams interested in the services of the closer himself should have a strong prospect ready. Papelbon just turned 34, and the tall righty is showing no signs of slowing down any time soon.
Papelbon fashioned a 2.04 ERA in 2014, his lowest in the last 5 years. He registered his 9th straight season of at least 59 appearances, so he is healthy and has the record to prove it.
He also has a record of excellence with both the Red Sox and the Phillies. His 39 Saves were the 2nd-highest of his career, and mark the 8th time in the last 9 years that he topped the 30-Save mark. He also had a 63/15 K/BB ratio, allowing just 45 hits in 66.1 innings.
Jonathan Papelbon and his condo are both on the free agent market, and both are a little pricey. Neither is likely to come at a discount. But both are proven commodities, and both should yield enjoyment of their new owners.
