Registration now open for 2019 Phillies Charities 5K

The Phanatic will lead the Phillies 5K as usual
The Philadelphia Phillies are not only a fundamental piece of the local sports fabric, they are also one of the top philanthropic organizations in the area as well.
Each year the Phillies family runs a number of events and activities designed to raise money for worthy charities that, as the official team website states, “…serve a wide variety of needs, primarily in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware, and particularly those serving the Greater Philadelphia area and the communities of its minor league affiliates.
Members of the organization at every level participate in some way at the various events. That includes everyone from the front office to the Ballgirls, as well as the players, coaches, alumni, and their wives and families.
One of the first and biggest events for fan participation each year is the Phillies Charities 5K. That event will take place this year on Saturday, March 23 beginning at 9am. Participants should plan on arriving early and be ready at the starting point at least 15 minutes prior to that start time. Free parking is available.
This is a 3.1-mile run that is certified by USA Track & Field and which both starts and ends at Citizens Bank Park in South Philadelphia. If weather permits, the team even opens up the ballpark to allow for a “cool-down” finishing lap on the field around the warning track.
Casual runners should not feel discouraged. You can go at your own pace. You can even simply walk the course. However, no motorized devices, bikes, skates, skateboards, pets, or strollers will be permitted on the course. Water and restrooms are provided, and emergency services are also on hand.

Beginning on the south side of the ballpark, the course takes you around Citizens Bank Park and the Wells Fargo Center, out into the Navy Yard, and then back out on to Broad Street for the finishing stretch back to your starting point.
Registrants must be at least 13 years of age. There is no registration on the day of the event, so you must register prior in order to take part. Registration is now open with an entry fee of $50 and you can do so easily at this link: REGISTER NOW.
All registrants receive a package that includes a long-sleeve shirt, a gear check bag, personal bib with disposable tracking chip, a finisher medal, a four-ticket voucher for select April home games, and a 20% discount coupon to the Phillies New Era store.

This will be a fun morning with the Phanatic present as well as various surprise Phillies personalities. There will be live music and other fun happenings. And, of course, you will be helping raise money that will benefit our community.
I’ll be registering and taking part for the first time this year. I am not a runner, so you can expect to find me taking my sweet old time in walking around the course.
I’ll try to organize any Phillies Nation readers who want to walk the course together as the event approaches. And I’ll be posting on social media before, during, and after the event. It should be a fun time for Phillies fans to get together, so come on out and join me for the 2019 Phillies 5K in March.
